My Role at Testbirds is a series of blog posts that gives insights into the daily life at the office. Every so often, one of our employees will introduce you to his or her line of work and share some helpful tips. This week features our Nest specialist Christine who is making our plaftorm a perfect testing experience.Origin/Background: Schwäbish Hall is my home town, which some may recognize from the insurance company with the same name that uses a fox in their TV commercials. Actually, it’s a really lovely city with around 37 thousand citizens, with half-timbered houses, an open-air theatre and the Einkorn, where you have an amazing view of the region. However, to appreciate your home town you need to travel and discover other parts of the world. In my case, I flew to quite a few stopovers such as Düsseldorf for an apprenticeship and for work. After a couple of years I migrated for my studies to Wiesbaden and spent some time in Melbourne and Offenburg. Now, I have finally decided on Munich as my destination of choice. What you do at Testbirds: Basically, everything Nest related passes by my desk sooner or later. As the Product Owner of the Nest I coordinate with our development team, discuss new features or change requests from other departments like project management or sales. I also make sure that the bugs within our Nest are fixed. Our goal is to improve the experience for all users who are in our Nest: testers, project managers and clients alike. Other than these main tasks there are always projects like the website, the blog, or BirdFlight to take care of.Current Computer: Lenovo Thinkpad T410sCurrent mobile device: Sony Xperia Z3 Compact; Samsung Galaxy Tab SOne word that best describes how you work:PreciselyA typical work day consists of: What a question! Working on the next big thing for our Nest! All day long. And coffee. What apps/software/tools can’t you live without (and why)? MyEpisodes to track how much time I waste watching TV shows. Besides that, checking in at newly discovered places in Swarm or finding new ones with Foursquare. From a work perspective: our issue tracking tool to track our development, obviously, and Pulse.me to get the latest news about Online & Mobile Technology, UX, Design, etc. What’s your workspace setup like? Watch out – it’s a self-made standing desk.Christine's deskWhat’s your best time-saving shortcut?Do this in your browser: CTRL +  – it lets you go directly to the tab that you would like to open. “9” will always open your last tab.Besides your phone and computer, what gadget can’t you live without (and why)?My digital single lens reflex camera since it lets me capture some nice, once-in-a-lifetime memories. What everyday thing are you better at than everyone else? What’s your secret?Losing at Foosball but still having fun. Sometimes at least my teammate saves the game and we win anyway. (Thx btw). What do you like to do outside work?Lately, I’ve been playing street ball with some of the other Birds. What’s the best advice/life motto you’ve ever heard?Just make your dreams come true. There is always a way, if you can’t find it at first, keep looking. If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?I would love to visit the Smurf village. Then I would get my own poem read by Poet Smurf, a yummy cake baked by Baker Smurf or listen to the songs of Harmony Smurf. It has everything you can think of!Anything else to add that might be interesting to others? If you haven’t yet figured it out: so far I am the only girl in the development team. :O
