My Role at Testbirds is a series of blog posts that gives insights into the daily life at the office. Every so often, one of our employees will introduce you to his or her line of work and share some helpful tips. This week features our team member Kathrin who is our HR manager. Origin/Background: I grew up in the world famous “Ruhrpott” where people say things like “Schakkeline, sach ma’ für den Onkel Tach”. But it’s not as grey and super industrial there as most people expect it to be, so I used to be surrounded by fields and nature. After school I still stayed in Ruhrpott where I studied business psychology until I moved a little bit into the south exploring Baden-Württemberg to study textile management. What you do at Testbirds: I am the HR Manager and therefore, I take care of all the Birds and try to make Testbirds the best place to work. That means that I am responsible for recruiting new Birds, for onboarding them, for listening if the Birds are (un)happy, for giving and getting feedback, for developing them, for paying their salary on time and for all the little things that come up during a day. Current Computer: Lenovo ThinkPadCurrent mobile device: iPhone 4s (am I allowed to say that in public when working for a tech company?)One word that best describes how you work:HappilyA typical work day consists of: Of 1000 little things which makes me wonder what I actually did the whole day?!What apps/software/tools can’t you live without (and why)? An app for public transport. I would be definitely lost without it.What’s your workspace setup like? Not only do I have one of the oldest mobiles at Testbirds but I am also known for having a looooooot of paperwork in my office. Seems a little bit old school but we couldn’t find a digital solution for a lot of the things happening in HR. So there are usually a lot of documents on my desk. What’s your best time-saving keyboard shortcut?CRTL+SHIFT+NBesides your phone and computer, what gadget can’t you live without (and why)? It’s not a special gadget but I could not live without immediate access to knowledge anymore. Wiki and I are really close friends.Name one everyday thing where you are better at than everyone else? What’s your secret?I can find a funny or super interesting aspect in nearly everything and that will always cheer me up.What’s the best advice/life motto you’ve ever heard?Human beings will always behave like human beings and that is fine!If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?Coco Chanel who not only fought for better style.
