My Role at Testbirds is a series of blog posts that gives insights into the daily life at the office. Every so often, one of our employees will introduce you to his or her line of work and share some helpful tips.

This week features our Online Marketing Manager Maximilian, who optimizes our online presence.

I grew up in a small village near Munich. So I’m a typical Bavarian guy, although I don’t wear Lederhos’n every day and I don’t drink two Mass with every lunch. If people ask, I mostly name Munich as my hometown though: I go out here, I went to school here, I studied at university here and now I am also living and working here. I also studied for a year in Málaga, Spain. Well, I was part of the Erasmus program there to be honest. That was one of the best choices I’ve ever made. Going to bed late and never remembering the country people came from nor the language we spoke in. There are things money can’t buy. Now I’m at Testbirds and the story continues.

What you do at Testbirds:
Well, I do something with the Internet. I remember my first 56k modem in 2000 and my mother crying because she wanted to call and I was blocking the line. 15 years later the Internet still exists and has given birth to jobs like Online Marketing, which is what I am doing now. It has to do with advertising, website optimization for Google, newsletters, content management, writing and social media. I need technical skills for that like HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and I use different online marketing tools and I spend a lot of time analyzing and calculating. So numbers and a pinch of mathematics spice up my working day. Moreover, writing content to attract online users is part of my job. Last but not least, I communicate with the PR, marketing, development and sales departments.

Current Computer:
Lenovo Thinkpad T61

Current mobile device:
LG G4 – since this week yey!

One word that best describes how you work:
Optimizingly (I like inventing new words)

A typical work day consists of:
Google → Drupal → Meeting → Google → WordPress → Lunch → Foosball → Google → MS Office → Google → MailChimp.

What apps/software/tools can’t you live without (and why)? An offline (!) dictionary with 30 languages and millions of words. It even features Latin and Esperanto. Shazam. I often think, “Oh, I know that I know that song…”, but of course I don’t know the artist. I never know. MVV Companion. It’s disturbing how lazy you become with all these apps. Instead of crossing the street, I check my app to find out when the bus leaves.
What’s your workspace setup like?
Coffee, keyboard, to do list.

What’s your workspace setup like?

And here it is: Maximilians standing desk

What’s your best time-saving shortcut?
Windows key+arrow left, Window key+arrow right. As we nowadays work on 16:9 screens, this shortcut helps me arrange two windows on the same screen. How convenient!

Besides your phone and computer, what gadget can’t you live without (and why)?
Does Tabasco count as a gadget? I don’t have one actually.

What everyday thing are you better at than everyone else? What’s your secret?
I will beat you at Quizduell.

What do you like to do outside work?
Cycling, travelling, pool billiard, cinema, random and spontaneous stuff with friends.

What’s the best advice/life motto you’ve ever heard?

If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
I would like to meet the US president, Obama, take some pictures with him, talk to him about politics, sit on his chair in the oval office, attend some meetings with prime ministers and of course recommend him crowdtesting for : P

Anything else to add that might be interesting to others?
Don’t expect me to be friendly in the morning 😉
