What is remote testing?

Remote testing is pretty much what it sounds like – testing but remotely. Test participants work from home, usually part-time as a way of getting some extra income. For both quality assurance and usability/user experience, you can use our Crowd to find out where your digital product already impresses and where it has areas of improvement.

In our Crowd, you can reach target audiences all over the world and with all kinds of devices, like smartphones, computers, media players, fitness trackers, drawing tablets, and more. The majority of our Crowd are regular users, not professional testers. This means that you can test your product with the actual people who will be your customers. Running tests in a usability lab will only get you so far. If you want your product to work exactly as intended, you need to put it to the test in the real world – before it reaches consumers. Remote testing allows you to test in real environments, with real users and real devices. Rather than having to purchase devices for a usability lab, you can simply make use of the multitude of devices that already exist in our Crowd. Not only is this cheaper and easier, but it also gives you a greater variety of testing devices and scenarios.

For certain products, there might be a need to validate and evaluate connections between the analog and digital world. With remote UX testing, you can make sure that your user experience works as it’s supposed to, taking the environment of use into consideration as well – such as network stability, user preferences, or local demographic differences.

Save time and in-house resources

Running a remote usability test or bug test lightens the pressure on your internal teams and resources. Instead of the time-consuming process of preparing an in-house test with QA engineers, testers, different devices, and so on, you can hand over your testing project to us and our Crowd. We already have the users and devices you need, and they’re available on-demand. 

Before being invited to any test, we’ve onboarded and qualified our testers. We ask participants to complete an entry test when they join our platform, so they know how to perform remote user testing and what is expected of them. The testers conduct tests on their relevant device(s) and hand in their feedback on our platform, through their regular web browser.
