Keep Distance and a Positive Mindset

I am known to always see the positive, look for opportunities, and motivate people. Today I have two key messages regarding Coronavirus for everyone:

  • Keep distance
  • Keep your positive mindset

Keep distance

Everyone should be aware by now how serious this is. Lots of consequent actions have been taken (home office almost everywhere possible, goodwill from many travel/tourist companies, closing schools, restaurants, borders, etc.). I have full trust in our politicians that they are taking the necessary actions.
From today’s standpoint, the most important thing is to limit social interactions to a minimum, which is important for each and every one of us. Please limit all unnecessary travel and social contact. Avoid using public transport. Don’t even meet your friends, unless it’s critical to do so.
Go out and take a walk (unless it’s restricted in your region already) but make sure to keep a minimum of 2m distance. If you want to dive deeper into why these actions have to be followed, Tomas Bueyo has written a very good summary article on medium that you should take the time to read.

With the safety of all people and their families being our main concern, we have decided to close all our offices and have sent our employees to work from home.
All face-to-face meetings will be moved to online meetings. Tests that require our testers to go outside are also affected by this and we are in the process of reaching out to those testers and clients directly. In all possible cases, tests that ask testers to go outside will be postponed.

Coronavirus is potentially the biggest fight in recent history, but there is a difference – this time we’re not fighting against each other. We are fighting this together. What I hope for is that instead of creating walls of hate or fear and separating our society even more, we can look at this as an opportunity for change. Let’s stick together and make the best out of it. We will continue to monitor the situation regarding the Coronavirus very closely and make necessary changes as the situation evolves. Meanwhile, our operational departments will make sure our clients and partners continue enjoying our remote services as usual.

Keep A Positive Mindset

While there is a lot of conversation about the things we should limit or stop doing, we’re not talking enough about the positive developments that are happening in a time like this.

Therefore, I have a few suggestions (besides the well-known – hygiene etiquette, limiting social contacts, etc.).

  • To all journalists: Please report more about the positive aspects like recovered people, stories about neighbors supporting each other, etc.
  • To all businesses: Make sure we can keep the economy up and running
    • Don’t cancel meetings. Move them to virtual conferences with cameras on
    • Don’t delay business that can be conducted digitally
  • To all politicians & scientists: continue making the right decisions regardless of how strict they may be
  • To all the people doing the jobs that are critical for our society (health system, infrastructure, law enforcement): you are our heroes, please don’t hesitate to ask for help/support
  • To all of us: Make use of your “additional” time
    • Spend time with your family at home, e.g. play all the board games
    • Do things you always postpone – like cleaning up the basement
    • Help the elderly with shopping, etc.
    • Stay in quarantine/isolation if you are asked to
    • Limit social contact and stay at home
    • Rebook your trips for later – don’t cancel them
    • Keep a positive attitude and humor like the Italians do: #andratuttobene

And please, please, please…

  • Do your part to prevent panic by not hoarding goods such as pasta or toilet paper
  • Consider what you share on social media to prevent the spread of fake news
  • Make sure medical supplies stay where they are needed most – at hospitals and medical facilities. Taking medical goods from where they are needed is dangerous and counterproductive.

So, in addition to all the important developments and news around Coronavirus, let’s also collect positive and fun stories.

Let’s #flattenthecurve together while keeping a positive mindset, starting right here and now: https://twitter.com/Petit_Wendy35/status/1238574760537309184?s=20
