I’m Felix and this is my role at Testbirds

My Role at Testbirds is a series of blog posts that gives insights into the daily life at the office. Every so often, one of our employees will introduce you to his or her line of work and share some helpful tips. This week features our team member Felix Buchner who is responsible for making Testbirds famous in the DACH market as PR and Marketing Manager in the Munich Office.Origin/Background:I was born in the deep South of Bavaria. Originally, I am a professionally trained journalist and my first job was at a German newspaper and a television broadcaster. Because of being interested in everything related to writing, texts, media and communication, I decided to change sides and started a second career at a consultancy in the field of corporate communications. Corporate communications is exactly where I found my passion, it is where I can enjoy writing, talking about, and presenting, cool content. I also studied law and American Studies and I have a deep interest in American popular culture, history and politics. What do you do at Testbirds: At Testbirds, I am responsible for PR and Marketing in the Germanophone market. My job includes writing press releases, blog posts, and creating and filming case studies, creating content for the website, organizing trade shows and events, handling journalist requests and supporting every Testbirds department with a helping hand regarding PR & Marketing tasks.Current Computer: MacBook ProCurrent mobile device: iPhone SEOne word that best describes how you work: meticulousA typical work day consists of: I check my emails every morning on the smartphone at home (I know, a lot of people don’t think that’s a good idea but: so what 🙂 ) After having arrived at the office I check my calendar and my to-do-list and after that grab a cup of coffee. Then, there are mostly two options: writing stuff or talking to colleagues (most of the time marketing/PR-people or sales people) about what they need and figuring out how I and we as the whole marketing team can support them. What apps/software/tools can’t you live without (and why)? What’s your workspace setup like? I think without Outlook (the desktop and the mobile solution) I couldn’t do my job. Almost everything is based on communication via email so Outlook is THE tool for me. My workspace is a simple desk (some call it a standing desk but I don’t use that function so for me it is just a desk) and I am surrounded by my marketing, PR and design colleagues. When I look outside the window I can see the famous Theresienwiese where the Munich Oktoberfest takes place every year. One can say, it’s an office with a view 🙂 What’s your best time-saving keyboard shortcut? “Alt + tab key” – jumping between different programs is awesome.Besides your phone and computer, what gadget can’t you live without (and why)? Besides phone and computer, a pen and a piece of paper are the most important gadgets. No matter if I am in a meeting or on the phone or thinking about what I have to do tomorrow, I always take “physical” notes with a pen. For me, that’s the best way to keep things in mind and to structure ideas and daily tasks.Name one everyday thing where you are better at than everyone else? What’s your secret? Hmm, I don’t think that I am better than somebody else but I think there is something I am quite good at: listening to people to help them finding a solution and sometimes calm them down when everything seems too stressful. And the secret funnily goes hand in hand with what I said before: I like it very much when the day is rocking. So, I am guy who loves the action and at the same time helps people to calm down. What do you like to do outside of work? I am a sports, books and music guy. And I love my old Vespa and everything related to old, beautiful cars (not only the American muscle cars but there is a reason why some of them are called “Hot Rods”). So, let me ride my Vespa to the lake on a sunny day, give me some swimming trunks and a good book, and I am happy. What’s the best advice/life motto you’ve ever heard? Yoda said: “Do or do not, there is no try.” I like that get-things-done-attitude.
