My Role at Testbirds is a series of blog posts that gives insights into the daily life at the office. Every so often, one of our employees will introduce you to his or her line of work and share some helpful tips. This week features our new team member Sahil Deva who is working on the expansion of our marketing & pr activities in the UK.SahilOrigin/Background: I’m one of those extremely international people; third-culture individual is the proper term I believe. I was born in India and moved to Poland when I was 1 years old. I spent 7 – 8 years there before moving to Lithuania where I lived for approximately 4 years. After that I found myself in Sweden, which is where I consider myself from as I spent my most formative years there and I hold a Swedish passport. Finally, about 2 years ago I moved to London to study creative writing and now I’m in Munich for the summer. What you do at Testbirds: I’m the Marketing & PR Manager for UK. I’ll be returning to London in a few months to properly launch, develop and maintain all the marketing and PR duties as we successfully expand into the UK market. Until then most of my focus is towards building a strong foundation to work off of prior to my return from Munich.Current Computer: Lenovo Thinkpad T61Current mobile device: iPhone 4SOne word that best describes how you work:TenaciouslyA typical work day consists of: Liaising with the press, utilizing marketing strategy to increase productivity, creating original methods to maximize overall efficiency, attending meetings with colleagues to explore various opportunities… gossiping and skating to the bakery ;). All fueled by Red Bull and loud music. What apps/software/tools can’t you live without (and why)? I’m quite fanatical about music so I’d have to say Spotify. I have a playlist for all my different moods and unless I’m in someone’s company I tend to be plugged into my phone listening to or discovering new music. I’m a huge gamer too with my biggest addiction being Dota 2. If I go too long without gaming something it starts taking a toll on my psyche. That’s not a scary thought at all. What’s your workspace setup like? Sahil's deskWhat’s your best time-saving shortcut? As corny and Shia Labeouf-ish as it sounds: there’s no time like the present. Procrastination is the enemy and you’ll never get in the zone if you don’t start. Besides your phone and computer, what gadget can’t you live without (and why)?I guess it would have to be my headphones. When I realize I have forgotten to bring them with me I usually have a minor panic attack. What everyday thing are you better at than everyone else? What’s your secret?Probably writing but pretty much every self-proclaimed writer will tell you they’re better than the rest. It’s because we’re all constantly creating fiction and starring in our own stories. What do you like to do outside work?I spend a lot of evenings jamming on my guitar or skating on my longboard.  I also love watching films, partying, and of course, video games. I try to enjoy going to the gym but it’s a love-hate relationship. What’s the best advice/life motto you’ve ever heard? Not sure if this counts as a motto but my English teacher back in high school once pulled me aside after class and said “You’re on f-ing thin ice, Sahil.” It was the first time an adult had spoken to me as a fellow human-being rather than a child. I shaped up after that and I like to think back on that moment as educational, highlighting the importance of mutual respect – and of not being on thin ice as she so eloquently put it.If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?Probably Hunter S. Thompson but I know I’d regret it soon after.Anything else to add that might be interesting to others?I once got bit by a wild hedgehog… it was terrifying.
