E-Commerce Testing with the Crowd
We’re getting closer to the most critical time of year for e-commerce. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas are coming up – so it’s time for a final check to see if you’re ready for the peak season.
E-Commerce Optimisation – Powered by Crowdtesting
Crowdtesting means we test and help optimise the user-friendliness, usability, and functionality of your online store. Tests are conducted in real-world conditions using the collective knowledge of a global online community – our Crowd of 400,000 testers all around the world.

Annual European B2C Ecommerce Turnover (Euro, billion)
Online shopping will reach a new record of €621 billion in 2019
This prediction comes from the latest European Ecommerce Report and obviously, the numbers keep growing year after year. This means more people are shopping online, but at the same time, there’s also more competition in the B2C and B2B markets.
That’s why having the best customer experience is getting more and more crucial and has become a game-changer in the online world. The reason why is simple – all competitors are doing their homework. Nearly everybody does on-page conversion rate optimisation and spends money on focus groups and other tools – to get into the minds of their target audience.
Black Friday: the spending spree that’s spreading
USA – the birth country of Black Friday and Cyber Monday – leads the pack when it comes to increased e-commerce sales on this day. As Criteo reports, Black Friday sales were 4.87 times higher than the October average in 2018. Also, more and more users are shopping on their phones – on Cyber Monday 2018 more than half of online sales in the US came from mobile devices. But it’s not only sales that rise on Black Friday – so does traffic. In 2018, traffic was 2.87 times higher in the US compared to the average for October.
Europeans are also in the shopping mood. In Germany, sales on Black Friday in 2017 were 1.82 times higher compared to the following two weeks in November. In the UK this number is 1.61 and in the Netherlands it even shoots up to 4.38.
Customer-centricity is key for the optimisation of your user experience
Do you really know what your potential customers think, want, and need when they hit your webshop? You might have insights from your digital analytics, or maybe you did surveys or focus groups on your key personas. But did you integrate your target groups in all of your optimisation measures? Research shows that 86% of buyers are willing to pay more for a good customer experience. It also predicts that by the end of 2020 customer experience will be the key brand differentiator and overtake price and product.
Who could tell you more about customer experience than your own customers? That’s where our innovative Crowdtesting approach comes into play – choose your target group from more than 400,000 testers all over the world and hear what they have to say about your digital product.
Increase your e-commerce conversion rate
CRO is king and the king needs a queen – a customer-centric approach. It should be given that you’re already running A/B testing where you try out different versions of your shop with your customers – anonymously and statistically significant. But are you really achieving the conversion rate you’re aiming for? And how do you prevent being biased when setting up the different versions of your shop? Our solution to these questions is our 360° customer-centric approach for CRO.
Customer experience – from start to finish
Testing your webshop or app is more or less a standard by now, but the success of your e-commerce isn’t only decided online – the customer experience also takes place in the offline world. So, what do your customers feel when they’re unboxing their delivery in the comfort of their homes? How effortless are your return processes and communication? These are just some of the questions to ask yourself in order to have full control of your customer experience and they play a crucial role when talking about customer lifetime value, return frequency, and basket values.
Optimise your usability and get rid of bugs
Are your conversion rates dropping after your last release? Not sure if it’s because of usability issues or bugs? There’s no need to worry with our BugAbility™ service, which lets you test both factors at the same time. It’s the quickest way to find problems in your product or service and figure out what your next steps are for creating a digital product that your customers really love.
Take a closer look at vital spots
Are customers leaving your page once they get to check-out? Maybe your payment platform isn’t working the way it should? Structured Bug Testing guides users through specific steps to find crucial issues where you think they may lie. Don’t lose out on all those potential sales – check your check-out for bugs standing in your customer’s way!
Always be one step ahead of your competition
You should always know what your competitors are doing. In times when digital products differ only slightly, it’s more important than ever to keep up with your challengers. Do customers find information or products faster on a competitor’s site? How is their website structured? Find out with the help of the Crowd and then do it better!

Don’t let the device landscape scare you
The days of only a few devices being out there are definitely over. The complexity increases day by day with all those devices, operating systems, and browsers – and at this point, we haven’t even mentioned all the different versions.
That can truly be a bit scary when it comes to the question if your webshop is running smoothly and bugfree on all combinations. To replicate this using an in-house device farm is almost impossible and way too expensive. Crowdtesting offers a very good solution here – a cross-section of systems and devices, matching all your testing requirements. On real devices with real users.
How to relax during holiday season
Although it comes back each year, Black Friday always shows up faster than expected. So, you need useful and reliable results in a small amount of time – another reason why Crowdtesting is the right solution for you. We find testers for your project quickly and efficiently, and our Crowd around the world are available 24/7. So, relax and let us get feedback from your target group just in time for Black Friday. With the help of our Crowd, we make sure your product is the best that it can be.
Keep control and stay ahead of the game
We don’t leave you in the dark when it comes to costs, flexibility, and insights in your test. What would you say if your developers can start working on bugs while your test is still running? Wouldn’t that be great, especially right when Black Friday’s coming closer and closer?
With your personal dashboard on our testing platform, the Nest, you can live-track the current status of your test projects and export identified bugs to JIRA or Redmine.
We also offer you full cost control: with our virtual currency, BirdCoins, you can test whenever you want.
